Folklore 003: The First Foundations

The first settlers arrived with more ambition than certainty. They chose hills, rivers, caves, deserts, glaciers, and floating stone, then began the oldest argument in civilization: where the road should go.

Builders raised temporary homes that became permanent. Miners opened the first safe veins. Farmers tested altered soil. Fishers learned unfamiliar coasts. Messengers crossed territory lines carrying coordinates, warnings, tools, and offers of trade. A building contest marked the formal opening of the new age, but the true contest was quieter: whether five wounded peoples could build faster than the Wilderness could swallow them.

Records remember grand plans, yet survival often depended on smaller acts: a shared bed, a repaired bridge, a meal left for a stranger, or directions home. These were the first foundations of Elarion, though no architect drew them.
