Folklore 014: The Ledger of Winds

Solaris counted survival in routes.

Its people crossed sand with goods, rumors, contracts, guards, and ambitions. They rebuilt trade not because coin was sacred, but because no settlement possessed everything it needed. A road through the desert could feed a frozen village, arm a builder, or make a merchant powerful enough to frighten kings.

The Ledger of Winds recorded more than prices. It named caravans that arrived, those that vanished, favors owed, and promises whose value changed with the weather.

Solaris left one warning to later markets: wealth that never moves is only a buried object. Trade becomes civilization when both ends of the road remain alive.
